I Wish I Could Speak Your Language

This piece was included in the gallery show “These Days”, a collaboration with photographer Bill Webb, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee. The church in his image is so eerie and surreal. It brought up thoughts of spirits and memories floating around it like specters. I began to imagine the ceremonies that were held within those walls: the couples married there, the people mourned at funerals, and various other ceremonies celebrating holidays or other events. That train of thought reminded me of the secret language that Victorians used to communicate hidden meaning through flower arrangements sent to loved ones. To me that is such a ridiculous way to convey your feelings and sentiments to someone. Long story longer, I embedded individual flowers or leaves from live plants between sheets of handmade paper. I wanted them to have the appearance of thought bubbles, a sort of token memory of emotional expression, preserved in time. These blooms will fade over time, much like those memories and once meaningful moments.

Individual flowers/leaves laminated in abaca paper, stretched over bailing wire frames. Each frame has a spoke which sticks directly into the wall. NOTE: only half of the pieces in the images are for sale (approx. 80-85 pieces). The other half has sold. Installation services offered free with local purchase only. If you would like to purchase the photograph in the images please contact me. It will cost an additional $150.00.
